Whatever’s next inThe Witcheruniverse will be in Unreal

CD Projekt Red is working on the next game inThe Witcherseries. And this new saga will be taking place on a new engine, too.

The Witcherstudioconfirms it is developing the next installmentofThe Witcheron Unreal Engine 5. The move is part of a multi-year strategic partnership with Epic Games. The deal will cover licensing and technical development of UE5, and CDPR says it will closely collaborate with Epic’s developers to tailor the engine for open-world experiences.

CD Projekt Red isn’t saying much more about the newWitchergame. No development time frame or release date has been set. The teaser image in today’s blog post does note that “a new saga begins.” Given the nice ending Geralt got inBlood and Wine, it’d be nice to see someone else take up the silver sword.

REDengine will still be used at CD Projekt Red, as it’s the engine behindCyberpunk 2077. CDPR confirms that REDengine will still be used for developing the upcomingCyberpunk 2077expansion.2077recently gota pretty significant overhaul patch, tuning many features of the futuristic open-world game. The patch also brought the game officially onto next-gen consoles.

Confirmation of more games inThe Witcherseries is big, though. The fantasy series got a second surge from theNetflix adaptation, andThe Witcher 3: Wild Huntstill stands as a top game of the last generation. It’s even,eventually, coming over to the next-gen consoles too.

With a new engine behind it, the same oneseemingly powering some other big games, it’ll be interesting to see what’s in store for hunting monsters on the new consoles.
