Warning: Mild SPOILERS forThe Librarians: The Next Chapterepisode 6, “And the House of Cards.”
It only tookThe Librarians: The Next Chaptera single episode to begin establishing its own identity outside of the original series, but a new clip from episode 6 highlights just how deadly the stakes have become. It’s already clear from the fact thatThe Librarians: The Next Chapterseason 2 is already filmingthat TNT had faith in Dean Devlin’s latest series, and every episode thus far has done more than the last to earn that goodwill. But a new clip provided by TNT demonstrates exquisitely how far the stakes are being raised just halfway through the season.

The clip begins withThe Librarians: The Next Chaptercastgathered around Tarot reader Madam Visconti as Connor tries to make sense of the cards she’s pulled. It’s quickly revealed thatthe Tarot deck’s “Devil” card represents the actual Devil, who’s been trapped in a murder mystery mansionuntil he extinguishes the lives of those who imprisoned him there. Connor and the others quickly learn that the Devil has already killed two of the three offenders. This leaves only one, putting a clock on how much time the Library’s newest acolytes have until it’s too late to stop Satan’s plans.
What This Clip Means For The Librarians: The Next Chapter Episode 6
Vikram’s Newest Allies Are Facing Death Without His Help
After Christian Kane’s return as Jacob Stone in the series premiere, it’s already exciting to see how the writers might make room for moreThe Librarianscameos inThe Next Chapter, but it’s even more enticing to see how the spinoff will continue expanding the original series’ mythology. The Librarians: The Next Chapteris already expanding the mythos in a big way by confirming the Devil’s existence, and it’s even possible from Madam Visconti’s description that the Devil may twist our understanding of the series’ theological concepts.
One major head-scratcher from the original series was how polytheistic deities could inhabit a world in which the Holy Grail is confirmed to exist. Unless the Grail’s powers are unrelated to their Christian roots, the takeaway is thatThe Librariansexists in a world where mortal understanding of religious concepts is extremely narrow. Manyurban fantasy TV showspay little attention to the potential story issues this presents, but Visconti establishes the Devil as a multi-dimensional being that defies description. And that just happens to be the villain that Connor, Lysa, and Charlie are now facing without Vikram’s assistance.

Our Take On The Episode 6 Clip From The Librarians: The Next Chapter
The Cards May Hint At More Than Just The Episode’s Plot
At this point inThe Librarians: The Next Chapter, the biggest elephant in the room is thatVikram is almost definitely going to mess with time to see Anya again. Visconti suggests that Vikram may not be able to leave the enchanted manor once he enters, but it’s just as possible that it’s the Devil’s influence that he’ll be unable to escape. In fact, the reading Visconti gives may contain clues that suggest more about the story than merely the identity of the Devil’s captors.
Putting aside the Devil’s own card, the two that become blacked out at the end are The Magician and The Fool. In real Tarot practice, the first represents willpower while the other represents new beginnings. Vikram’s arc right now centers largely on a will-powered mission to begin anew with Anya, likely by abusing artifacts such as the Scythe of Time. The Librarians: The Next Chapterhasn’t taken Vikram too far down that road just yet, but a run-in with the theological personification of temptation just might be what it takes to kick Vikram’s potentially darkest storyline into high gear.
