Taye Diggsmay be used to the attention of Hollywood fame, but he still gets a bit nervous around his son.

On the Wednesday, March 5, episode ofToday with Jenna & Friends, theBest Manalum, 54, spoke with hostJenna Bush Hagerand guest hostRegina Hallabout his relationship with his15-year-old son Walker. Diggs admitted to the former first daughter, 43, and his longtime friend, 54, that he sometimes finds himself “scared” to ask his son to spend time with him.

“Sometimes, and it’s so crazy because I find myself kind of scared of him,” Diggs said. “So, there will be moments when I’m like, ‘After practice if you want to hang out and watch movies, you can, but if you don’t that’s fine.'”

This is not the first time theHow Stella Got Her Groove Backstar opened up about his “tentative” approach when asking his teenage son to hang out. When speaking withPEOPLE in November 2024about his partnership with Lysol Air Sanitizer, the actor and dad opened up about enjoying the time he gets with his busy teenage son, whom he shares with ex-wifeIdina Menzel, 53.

“I try not to show him how excited I am just when he says three words to me, but it can be difficult,” the proud dad joked.

“It’s very humbling because I feel like a 12-year-old girl that’s out with a senior boy. Anything I say could ruin the date,” he laughed. “I’m so tentative.”

“It’s a trip. I’m an adult and I’m hanging on every word of this 15-year-old. It’s fun. It’s really, really fun and eye-opening.”

While Menzel and Diggs have kept their sonaway from the spotlight, he’s finally ready to step out into the world on his own.

“He’s gotten to the age where he says, ‘I’m proud of you, Mom. I want to be with you.’ So then I felt like it was OK,” she told the outlet.

“I believe his anonymity is so important and yet he’s a teenager, and it was a hard decision to be honest, you know? But he really wanted to,” she added. “I’m proud of him, so I loved showing him off. But as a parent, I’m still conflicted about it.”
