It was a big weekend for Sony PlayStation fans as the company held its annual PlayStation Experience event in Anaheim, California. Unlike previous years, the event this year was somewhat more lowkey, lacking the bombastic trailers and reveals fans have come to expect. Sony used the weekend as a celebration of sorts, showing previously seen footage, giving fans hands-on time with games, and hostingnumerous panels for many exclusive games. Insomniac Games and Marvel were on hand as well to give fans a look behind the scenes of their anticipated game,Spider-Man.
The new trailer gives fans a look at the character of Peter Parker and his origins within the comics. Unlike other heros at the time, Spider-Man was essentially a normal teenage boy, real-world world problems of his own, which was quite different from other heros at that time which included the likes of Superman and Batman. That’s the angle Insomniac and Marvel are looking to tap into with theMarvel’s Spider-Man, humanizing the character so players will understand how high the stakes are.
In addition to utilizing Peter Parker, the game’s villain,Martin Li akaMr. Negative, is also fairly relatable. He’s a kind-hearted entrepreneur, who operates a number of homeless shelters around the city. Unfortunately, Lee has a dark side the public doesn’t see, giving him a sort of duality that means if Spider-Man takes down Mister Negative, he’s also taking down Martin Li who’s doing a lot of good around the city including giving Peter’s aunt a place to work as well.
Even though Sony didn’t drop any major surprises or reveals at PlayStation Experience this year, the company did confirm that the classic PS1 title,MediEvil, is getting the full remaster treatment for the PlayStation 4. Not only that, game-specific panels at the event provided a lot of insight into some of the most anticipated exclusives coming in 2018 such asGod of War,Ghost of Tsushima, andShadow of the Colossus. Neil Druckmann from Naughty Dog also gave fans an update onThe Last of Us 2, confirming thatthe game is about 60% completeand that fans were correct when rumors speculated that the setting has moved to Seattle, Washington.
