Third-person stealth shooter seriesSyphon Filteris one of the most beloved franchises in PlayStation history, first making its debut in 1999 and producing six games in total. The series hasn’t received a new entry since 2007’sSyphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow, but after 10 years away from duty it seems that Sony could be about to bring theSyphon Filterfranchise back.
On August 09, 2025, Sony renewed theSyphon Filtertrademark with the European Union Intellectual Property Office. The trademark filing is explicitly for “computer game software” including computer games that can be downloaded via the Internet. The filing also mentions “electronic game services provided by means of the Internet; Internet games (non-downloadable)” - suggesting that thisSyphon Filterreboot could have some sort of online multiplayer component.
There is a strong case to be made for the return of the series, especially considering howpopular reboots and remakeshave been. For example, theCrash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogywas a huge success, fans are excited for theShadow of the Colossusremaster as well asFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, and the new version ofL.A. Noireis getting some buzz.
It’s clear that fans are eager for classic game series to come back and for an excuse to spend more time in a game that they love (albeit with better graphics). The trademark filing doesn’t disclose whether the nextSyphon Filtergame will be an HD collection or an all-new game, but there will be plenty of fans interested nonetheless.
The trademark filings also can’t answer who will be making the game(s). The original developer ofSyphon Filteris Eidetic, which is now known as SIE Bend Studio (or Sony Bend), and that team is currently working onPS4 exclusiveDays Gone. That game looks fairly ambitious so it’s safe to say that a different studio would handle a remaster.
Hopefully, fans won’t have to wait long for more information, as thePlayStation Experience eventis set for early December and Sony has already promised some big announcements. Fingers crossed that the return ofSyphon Filteris one of them.
