Both theMortal Kombatseries and DC’s Joker are well known for being brutal and visious, makingJoker’s inclusion in the latest titlea natural choice. However, one of Joker’s Brutalities, the normally bloody finishers, in his new appearance inMortal Kombat 11shows a bit of the classic villain’s softer side, one not often seen even in his original comics or films.

Different from the famously body breaking Fatalities, Brutalities inMortal Kombat 11are a different type of finisher that kills the opponent in brutal ways without as much flair as the hyped up Fatalities. So most of the time, a character’s Brutality doesn’t give as much of an insight into the character as Joker’s newest move does.

Joker’s latest in a series of Brutalitiesshows the killer clown pouring gasoline on the ground before lighting it and his opponent on fire. However, as the opponent burns, Joker covers himself in what looks like feathers and then lunges forward to hug his burning enemy. Once he’s finished taking care of his enemy, Joker then exclaims, “Oh, look at us!” before the narrator announces the Brutality and the win for Joker.

Even if this is an oddly sincere moment for both Joker andMortal Kombat 11, it still fits into the style of both the clown and the brutal game series with the opponent burning to death as Joker laughs and carries on. This isn’t the only way that Joker can dispatch his enemies, as he also has a number of epic Fatalities available to decimate opponents and leave them in pieces with his special brand of comedy. Needless to say, Joker will be awelcome addition toMortal Kombat 11when he finally arrives to the game later this month.

The nature of these Brutality finishers and Fatalities have always been a point of contention for critics of the game, even leading to the creation of the modern rating system that classifies the maturity level of games today. However, these brutal finishers have been a staple ofMortal Kombatfor the entire series, and new ways to rip opponents apart is the biggest draw the latest games and new characters like Joker have going for them. Mature or not, fans are more than happy to keep supporting the series as it continues todisplay Next-Gen gibletsand brutal chaos for fans to spend hours fawning over as they flock around every new character.
