Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Guides

Mutt is hungry right out of the gate in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

As soon as you settle down for camp at the start of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, you’re faced with a dilemma: your dog Mutt won’t stop barking. Lord Hans Capon tells you to quiet down your dog and after you get him to heel, it’s apparent that Mutt is just hungry. So, the natural solution to the problem is to find some food for Mutt, but it’s not that simple in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Getting food for Mutt in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Finding food for Mutt is a part of the initial “Easy Riders” mission, which is the first major quest you’ve given in Kingdom Come 2.

The quest starts out at a camp in front of a pond on the outskirts of Trosky. There are a couple of different ways to go about getting food for Mutt, and the first involves talking to Oats, the man tending to the pot over the fire at camp.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance II

Speaking to Oats reveals that he doesn’t want to give you or your dog any food, as Mutt may have stolen some venison. Moreover, Oats only has one sausage left and he is saving it for himself. However, you may attempt to persuade or threaten Oats into giving you the sausage. Your three dialogue options when speaking to the NPC are:

These three dialogue options all have a chance to succeed, which makes Oats give Mutt the food, or fail, which forces you to consider other methods of securing some grub. The most likely choice to succeed is the first one, “We’ll get food at Trosky,” as this utilizes Henry’s highest speech stat at the time. However, in most cases that I’ve seen, your persuasion attempt will fail regardless of what option you pick.

This makes you try and get some food another way, which is through the game of Dice.

How to win Dice and get Oats' ring

If you keep talking to Oats after your persuasion attempt fails, he will mention that the only way he’ll give the sausage is if you get his ring back from a man named Tankard. Oats lost the ring in a game of Dice, and you need to play Tankard for the ring to get Mutt’s food.

Tankard is sitting at the dice table to the left of the fire and tent at camp. you may talk to him and place on a wager on the game of Dice to win the ring back. We have a full and detailed guide onhow Dice works and how to win it in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, so I highly suggest checking that out to ensure you can win the wager.

When you win the game of Dice, which is fairly easy to do with Tankard’s skill level, you’ll get Oats' ring back. Return to him at camp and tell him you won the ring. In exchange for it, Oats will give you a sausage.

You can give the sausage to Mutt by interacting with him (Hold Left Alt on keyboard) and then pressing the “Food” option. This allows you to select the sausage from your inventory and give it to the hound. You’ve now completed this part of the Easy Riders quest and can continue on in the story by speaking to Lord Capon down by the pond.
