The highly anticipated sequel to the beloved MetroidvaniaHollow Knighthas been teasing fans with a release for months, following a several-year-long silence from the development studio Team Cherry. The game was finally announced for a 2025 release a few months back, and since then, the community has been waiting for a new trailer, a release date, or simply more information about the sequel.
Many expected the Summer Game Fest presentation on Friday to reveal a trailer orrelease date forSilksong. However,instead of dropping new footage, the Fest name-droppedSilksongin a completely unexpected way, in relation to the upcomingDeadpoolVR game.In a Discord discussion, Team Cherry’s marketing lead Matthew “Leth” Griffin admitted that the studio had no idea the game was going to be mentioned.

This weekend, theSilksongSubreddit is full of memes showing Deadpool getting brutally killed, replacing theSilksongprotagonist Hornet in screenshots, or otherwise interacting with the game. This might seem like a strange crossover, but it’s actually a reaction to a moment fromFriday’s Summer Game Fest presentation. During the show,host Geoff Keighley was handed a red note from Deadpool, asking him to “do me a solid and skip that Silksong trailer"in favor of the trailer for the upcomingDeadpoolVR title.
TheSilksongcommunity reacted quickly and ferociously, with some posting good-natured memes and others expressing their frustration at the constant teasing and even outright boycotting theDeadpoolgame altogether. Fans are taking their frustration out on the masked superhero, thanks to the incident at the Summer Game Fest, in whichDeadpool is apparently to blame for the lack of a newSilksongtrailer coming from the Fest presentation.

The Mention Was A “Surprise” To The Team
In one of his rare appearances on Discord, Team Cherry’s elusive marketing lead Lethadmitted that theDeadpoolprank wasn’t something Team Cherry had planned.In response to being asked whether the studio knew about theDeadpoolmention, Leth admitted: “No it was a surprise to us too.”
“It was a surprise to us too.”
Leth goes on to call the callout “wild,” pointing out that “I can’t recall the last time a game (presumably spending a bunch of money too) used their time to mention another game.” Despite some members of the community being upset at the lack of news and the tease, it seems that theHollow Knight: Silksongteam is appreciative of the extra publicity, especially since it was completely free for them.
