Remotes are stunned . Stupid stupid and/or stupid expensive . So why bother dealing with stupidity when you already have the perfect twist to keep in line your organisation : an iPhone . See , smartphones are not stunned . With the Griffin Beacon , you could control everything with your sound .
Like the Peel before it , the Griffin Beacon is an IR blaster that convert action from your iPhone into signals all media box can translate . But unlike the Peel , the Beacon does what it promises to do and then gets the hell out of your way so you may focus on what you want to do : burn down prison term and watch the boob tube .

The Beacon really looks like it belongs on your coffee bean table . aerodynamic . Inoffensively cosmetic . Imagine a polished I. F. Stone sitting on top of an Apple TV — that ’s reasonably much what the Beacon is . Inside that ‘ polished Oliver Stone ’ ( which is really slightly semitransparent ) is the IR blaster which has a 180 level shot slant . The Beacon connects with the iPhone over Bluetooth , but needs the innocent third - political party Dijit remote app to control everything . Which sounds sketch , but it ’s not because Dijit is fantastical : dead easy to setup , completely user customizable and it includes a hearty TV guide and excellent Netflix management within the app . There ’s also an ‘ activeness ’ options which is a exclusive button for customized series of actions , like pressing your Xbox button will turn on your TV , switch the input and then bend on your Xbox , etc . ( a luck like how Harmony Remotes handle ’em ) .
I ’ve tossed my old remote behind me . I do n’t need that fool , using the iPhone and Beacon is just as fast .

It ’s fingerprint friendly . And though you ’ll never move it around , people who come over will inevitably beak up the Beacon and necessitate what it is , depart their grubby print all over it . Setting up a customs remote control ( one that ’s not in their 200,000 supported devices ) takes thousands of years . I wish it was rechargeable instead of assault and battery powered and that the icons in Dijit were a little bigger . swelled beef : not having an iPad - optimize app .
