Gaijin Games founder Alex Neuse has leveled a little criticism at his peers in the indie game market, stating that with a recent flood of titles has come a number of disappointingly unfinished games.

“I think that the indie scene is out of control,” said theBit.Tripdeveloper. “There are SO many games being made, it’s hard to keep track of them all. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but as a gamer who loves to play a game through to completion, I find it hard to set aside the time to give these games the play time they deserve.

“In the future of the indie scene, I hope to see more games actually get finished and make it to market. I’m sick of playing half-done games that are riddled with bugs. Like all consumers, I like products that work and that are complete experiences.”

I think there’s a prevailing mindset among some gamers that indie titles are better than big-budget games purely through the merit of their status, like being “indie” somehow makes you more ethical and noble. Sadly, that’s rarely the case, and I’d argue we get just as many quality indie games as we do “AAA” releases — perhaps less. Living in the trenches doesn’t automatically make you better at what you do.
