Earlier this year, Bandai Namco confirmed that it is developing a new action RPG title based on the popularDragon Ball Zfranchise, calledDragon Ball Z:Kakarot. As its title implies,Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotrevolves around the story of Goku, but now it has been confirmed that other iconic characters from the anime and manga series will also be playable in the upcoming game.

In the latest edition of the Japanese manga magazine V-Jump, popular characters from the franchise such as Piccolo, Gohan, and Vegeta, were confirmed to be playable inDragon Ball Z: Kakarot. Although the upcoming game will mostly revolve around Goku, which wasshown in theDragon Ball Z: Kakarotannouncement trailer, it appears that Bandai Namco is also planning to expand the stories of other characters as well by making them playable in the game. Although the studio hasn’t explained in detail how everything will work out, it is likely that players will be given control of other playable characters at certain points to flesh out their stories.

V-Jump also revealed thatDragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill feature an original story about Gohan’s training with Piccolo0. But while characters like Gohan and Piccolo will be playable, other characters like Krillin, Tienshinan, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha will not. Instead they will serve as Goku’s companions, functioning as support fighters that can engage enemies or defend the player against attacks.

Last month, Bandai Namco revealed theofficial trailer forDragon Ball Z: Kakarotat Xbox’s E3 conference. The E3 trailer delivered some on-brandDragon Ballaction and showed that even though the game is a single-player action RPG, it will still include traditional fighting game mechanics.Dragon Ball Z: Kakarotwill let players relive the story of Goku, fight through iconic battles fromDragon Ball Z, and explore new stories that were not included in the anime and manga series.
