The wizard might not be as popular as other classes, but that doesn’t mean the Wizard is bad or that it is not a fun class to play. It’s lots of fun, in fact. But if you want to be the Wizard inAvowed, there are certain skills to prioritize.

Here are all the details on the best Wizard build in the game.

Avowed best wizard build - two characters casting spells

Best attributes for a Wizard

You start out with 10 skill points you can assign to your character, and it’s key to focus on the stats that make the most sense for your Wizard, at least while starting out. You can always take your build in a different direction later on.

With a maximum of three points per Attribute, we recommend building up your Perception and Intellect. These two combined will allow you to cast much stronger spells while increasing their duration and accuracy as well. Later on, it is also a good idea to invest in Resolve, as that will allow you to resist enemy spells.

Main attributes in Avowed

As for your background, the one that makes more sense for a Mage is definitely the Arcane Scholar, which will give you a wand as your starting weapon. This is not mandatory as a choice, so if you want to experiment feel free to do so, as long as you build your stats in a way that makes sense for your Wizard.

Best skills for a Wizard build

The Wizard starts with one of the best skills across all classes, Magic Missile. We recommend grabbing it first, along with others such as Armored Essence which gives you more armor points, adding survivability to the Wizard. That Light armor is also an essential tool for your Mage.

After that, decide which direction you want to take your Wizard in. Do you want to focus on casting spells alone, or rely more on your wand? Either way, after the first few skills it will be time to start learning spells as quickly as possible.

First ability in Avowed

Here is a breakdown of all the skills.

Overall, you can choose skills that lead you to cast stronger fire, shock, poison, and ice spells. Naturally, we don’t recommend spending all of your points across these skills but rather pick a couple that sound like you would enjoy casting them and stick with them. Build your specializations instead of trying to build a Mage that can cast all the spells. Rather master a few or you’ll lose some potential power on your Wizard.

If you’re just starting out and not sure where to lead your Wizard build, then Fan of Flames is a good choice because of how most fights inAvowedare designed. You need spells that are effective in a crowded situation and that won’t fail when there are many enemies around you. That and Corrosive Siphon is a good combo to use early on.

Wizard skills

As soon as possible, however, you definitely want to jump on the Grimoire Mastery since that is how you will cast most spells in the game, by using your spellbook and the other books you will find in the game. But, instead, if you prefer to use a Wand which will allow you not to worry too much about draining your Essence (or Mana) points, then Wand Mastery is also highly recommended.

At level 10, get on that Harvest Essence as soon as possible, since it is essential for your Wizard, allowing you to gain back some of the points you’ve spent to cast spells. Blood Magic is good only if you invest points in the Constitution stat. Blackbow and Spirit Lance are more or less the same for attacks, so you can choose which ones you prefer, while Missile Salvo will upgrade your Magic Missiles. Meteor Shower and Arcane Seal are strong final spells, so choose the one that most suits your gameplay style.

Skills for a wizard fighter

Best skills for a battle mage (Wizard fighter)

While building up your battle mage might sound like a strange idea, there are quite a few Fighter skills that come in handy to the Wizard. Even though you have to be careful in planning your build here, switching on the fly to a huge melee weapon can get you out of some sticky situations when your Essence has run out.

Right off the bat, get your Wizard a couple of Fighter skills to avoid dying prematurely, such as Toughness and Constant Recovery. The first one helps with your health points, while the second will allow you to gain back some health automatically.

Ranger skills in Avowed

These are the Fighter skills that will come in handy for your Wizard:

If you plan to use a melee weapon for your secondary attacks, then the combo of Devastating Criticals with the Ranger’s Critical Strike will help you deal plenty of damage. But also keep an eye out for Bleeding Cuts if you often rely on a sword or axe, as that will also improve your damage rating.

Ancient Idol in PEAK

Built to Destroy will link to your will to destroy everything, offering extra health point recovery. Finally, Retribution is a nifty skill to have, since it will reflect some damage dealt to you, so save some points for it whenever you can.

Best skills for a Wizard ranger

Right at the start, there is one skill you want for your Wizard from the Ranger class, and that’s Survivalist. It is great to have at the start as helps you gain more health and Essence from potions and food. Evasive is also recommended, since your Wizard will not survive attacks for very long, so better to have a little help parrying spells or blows.

The following are Ranger skills that can be useful for your Wizard.

PEAK Mesa biome

If you plan to use bows or guns, and if you want to make a hybrid Wizard Ranger, you probably are, then Steady Aim would be a great addition. If you plan to use a combo of Wand/spells and bows/guns, invest early on into Quick Switch, which helps with secondary weapon switching.

There aren’t many other skills that are mandatory in the Ranger class, but we recommend keeping an eye out for Bear Ally. Summoning a bear friend to help you is not only quite fun, but it helps when enemies are distracted and not paying attention to you. Critical Strike also helps to deal some serious damage.
