After a big storyline was missing fromAvengers: Infinity War,Avengers: Doomsdaylooks set to redeem it. In a way,Avengers: Doomsday’s storyis like the MCU’s next attempt atInfinity War.In the same vein, thestory ofAvengers: Secret Warswill then be akin to 2019’sAvengers: Endgame.

However, there will be some key differences between the two older MCU projects and theupcoming Marvel movies. For one,DoomsdayandSecret Warswill be dealing with multiversal stakes, whereasInfinity WarandEndgamewere mostly concerned with Earth-616.Avengers: Infinity Waris often counted among theMCU’s best movies, but it still left some room for improvement.

Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet and the planet Xandar

For instance, a big plot point that many expected to see going into the movie was removed from the final cut. With this in mind,Avengers: Doomsdaycan redeem this via a big storyline from Marvel’s 2025 movies that is expected to feed over into the battle against Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday Looks Set To Use The Fantastic Four As Infinity War Used The Guardians

A Space-Based Team

Firstly, it is worth exploring some crucial context regarding a few members ofAvengers: Doomsday’s cast list. The members in question areThe Fantastic Four, who will likely beDoomsday’s replacements forInfinity War’s Guardians of the Galaxy. The latter were a cosmic team who allied with The Avengers against a threat directly linked to them: Thanos.

Despite being from a different universe entirely, The Fantastic Four will act as such inAvengers: Doomsday. The team is space-based, much more than The Avengers of Earth-616. Also, Doctor Doom is a villain directly linked to The Fantastic Four in many ways, be it through his rivalry with Reed or past fights teased byThe Fantastic Four: First Steps’Latveria reference.

Once Doom begins his multiversal plan, it is clear that The Fantastic Four will team up with The Avengers. They will likely know more about the villain they face than The Avengers, given the links to Doom, just as the Guardians did with Thanos inAvengers: Infinity War.

With all this in mind,a Guardians-centric story removed fromInfinity Warcan be redeemed via The Fantastic Four andDoomsday.

Avengers: Infinity War Missed Out A Big Part Of The Guardians' Story

The Guardians Did Not Get As Much Screentime As First Thought

The aforementioned plot point that was cut fromAvengers: Infinity Warlinks to the Guardians of the Galaxy: Thanos' attack on Xandar. At the end of 2014’sGuardians of the Galaxy, the team left the Power Stone in the care of the Nova Corps on Xandar. Many expected thatAvengers: Infinity Warwould begin with Thanos' attack against Xandar to retrieve the Infinity Stone.

However, once the Guardians were introduced toAvengers: Infinity War, they were told that Thanos had already destroyed Xandar and taken the stone. This disappointed many, as they would have liked to have seen Thanos' attempts to take the Power Stone, partly to make the Guardians' motivation in the film stronger, given their strong ties to the Nova Corps.

Unfortunately, though, this sequence was cut from the film. The Russo Brothers shot the sequence, yet did not want to spend extra budget on the VFX. Also, the scene was around 45 minutes long, which would have pushedAvengers: Infinity Warbeyond three hours, and the Russos did not want the film to be as long asAvengers: Endgame.

Avengers: Doomsday Will Feature The Fantastic Four In A Much Bigger Way

Including Their Affiliated Locations

It is a shame that a storyline like Xandar, linked so heavily to the Guardians, was removed fromAvengers: Infinity War. WithAvengers: Doomsday, though, it seems as though this will be redeemed via The Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four’s version of the Guardians' Xandar is Earth-828, the universe in whichThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsis set.

Based on an interview with Kevin Feige forMarvel.com, Earth-828 will appear inAvengers: Doomsdayin a way Xandar did not inAvengers: Infinity War. Feige, when asked aboutDoomsday, stated:

“It’s fun to see them visit each other’s homes. So with the Baxter Building set, let’s say it had four or five people in it at most in theFantastic Fourmovie. And it’s got a heck of a lot more people in it [inDoomsday]. It’s a thrill to see that interaction.”

Feige’s mention of the Baxter Building, and everyone being present in it, proves how big a role Earth-828 will play inAvengers: Doomsday.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Sets Up Another Xandar Situation, But Doomsday Will Avoid It

The Post-Credit Scene Could’ve Led To Another Xandar

Interestingly, thepost-credit scene ofThe Fantastic Four: First Stepsleaves the door open forAvengers: Doomsdayto skip over events likeInfinity Wardid with Xandar. However, the above comments from Feige prove this will be avoided. In the post-credit scene, Doctor Doom appears in the Baxter Building and takes an interest in Franklin Richards.

It would be simple forAvengers: Doomsdayto begin with The Fantastic Four entering Earth-616, as teased inThunderbolts*post-credit scene, and catching The Avengers up on what took place with Doom. That said, Feige’s confirmation that The Avengers, The Fantastic Four, and the X-Men will convene in the Baxter Building seems to indicate this will not be the case.

With Earth-828 seemingly being so important toAvengers: Doomsday, it is hard to imagine the film skipping over the climactic confrontation between Doom and The Fantastic Four afterFirst Steps’post-credit scene, only to return to the same universe later. In reality,Avengers: Doomsdaywill likely begin directly afterThe Fantastic Four: First Steps’ending, rectifyingAvengers: Infinity War’s Xandar mistake.
