Remember those intoxicating days of April , when all we think what might be the grown job with Game of Thrones ’ final season was that it waskinda hard to watchthatepic battlebetween the Stark - Targaryen force and the Night ’s King at Winterfell ? Such sinless times . Well , if it was all too dark for you — literally — at least this VFX reel lets you see the talent behind it .
Weta Digital just let go of its own Virginia reel of work from Thrones ’ last season , and while there is a variety of work there — from the one - in - million shot thattook out Rhaegal , to Jaime and Cersei ’s death - by - rubble - landslide — it mostly focuses on the studio ’s FX work for the Battle of Winterfell . Which is good , considering on whether or not yourTV was calibratedto be very specifically perfect for this one instalment of the show — unlike every other installment , accordingto it ’s cinematographer — think you either got to see a nerveless ice zombi spirit battle or a giant black blob of incoherency .
Turns out underneath all that shadower there was a lot of nerveless trickery ! Although frankly , as courteous as the ice snake god and flaming tech is to see being built up tardily , I think my favourite shot of this is the clouds being formed for Rhaegal and Drogon to fly over on the eve of the conflict . It ’s a gorgeous pellet , and the direction this spool foxily draw all the cloud together piece by bit is very pretty . And easily visible !
