You ’ve got your big ticket , big name stuff , and then there are the countless items — the utilitarian , the unsung , the so - mundane - you - wouldn’t - give - them - a - second - thought — that have n’t always received the same originative fanfare . One man has been collecting and classifying these bits and bobs for tenner ; the time has add up to keep the great full world of No Name Design .
At this year’sTriennale in Milan , Franco Clivio will display over 900 of his artefact happen at flea market , parsimony shops , and hardware entrepot , with everything from ubiquitous orange - handled scissors to knife to swayer to mini inflatable beach balls sire a moment in the public eye . It ’s the real - life realization ofHidden Forms , his book from a few years back , and what is described as “ a love letter to the insignificant things that circumvent us in daily life . ”
In fact , it seems like we ’re entering a kind of golden eld for championing common goods . A lot of the featured pieces are by all odds specific to a certain era , or culture , or industriousness , because its bully to suss out what the pit they ’re actually meant to do . In a way , that makes their existence in this show even more affecting ; even if they ’re totally superannuated and never be used again , someone , sometime , invented them to solve a job or improve upon an exist model .
At some point they go seamlessly into daily life because they work so well , or performed the accurate task they were meant to , exactly the way they were meant to do it . Part of me wishes they had extensive legend with detailed screen background into , and part of me is well-chosen just looking at the sets , reckon at what they were born to do and who ’s handled them in the yesteryear .
